Trumpet Tech
From Dover, NJ, Fusion Core is proud to welcome back Jacobo Medina for his 12th season with the Core. Jacobo is a trumpet tech and the newest member of the administration team in 2022. Jacobo started his drum corps career with Fusion in 2008. From 2008-2012, Jacobo marched tuba under the tutelage of drum corps legend Deb Knisely. In 2010, Jacobo was part of Fusion Core’s first major title, winning the 2010 class A world championship as part of an undefeated drum corps season. After this, Jacobo served as low brass section leader in 2011 and 2012. From 2013-2015, Jacobo started his next drum corps chapter marching lead trumpet with Fusion. He served in many roles such as trumpet section leader, horn sergeant and soloist. During these years, Jacobo also served as a marching band instructor. In 2012, Jacobo joined the Pride of Metuchen marching band as a brass instructor (visual and music) and as the battery visual technician. Jacobo was with Metuchen in this role for 3 seasons from 2012-2015 and was also a part of the indoor drumline staff as a bass tech in 2013. In 2014, Jacobo joined the Pequannock Township marching band staff as the tuba technician (visual and music). After the 2015 season, Jacobo took some well-deserved time off from the marching arts after being a part of Fusion for 8 consecutive seasons. He attended CCM (County College of Morris) where he was studying music production/electronic music from 2015-2017.
Jacobo also taught and was involved with other organizations throughout his 12-year tenure. In 2012, Jacobo joined the Latin Express Mini Corps, a mini corps established by the Hawthorne Caballeros. He was there from 2012-2013 as a tuba/trumpet soloist. In 2013, Jacobo joined the Golden Eagles from West Sayville, NY as a contra player. In 2017, Jacobo joined Highland Regiment drum and bugle corps as a part of inaugural year and part of the instructional staff. In 2018, Jacobo joined the visual team for the Jersey Surf drum and bugle corps, where he served as a part time low brass visual tech. After a 4-year hiatus, Jacobo returned to Fusion in 2019 filling a lead trumpet spot in August. Remaining with the core in 2020 (Covid year) and in 2021 when drum corps returned, Jacobo once again lead the brass not only on staff, but also as an inline tech, the horn sergeant, trumpet section leader, lead trumpet and soloist for their production entitled "Smile".
Outside of drum corps, Jacobo is a freelance trumpet/sousaphone player and arranger/composer and producer, having performed with various bands throughout the tri state area (NY, NJ, PA). Jacobo was the lead trumpet player for rock/cover band Tony Destro and The Bowery Boys specializing in Elvis Presley and Jersey Boy oldies tunes. He also performed with the Whoa Phat Brass Band as a sousaphonist in 2018 as part of the Philadelphia New Year’s Day Mummers parade. Most recently, Jacobo has performed with the Demolition Brass Band from Northern, NJ playing both trumpet and sousaphone in various events ranging from weddings to college graduation parties and everything in between. Jacobo has also arranged for various high schools and colleges from pep band music to minor jazz charts. Jacobo's production style has also been featured in various types of social media outlets. Composing music for various projects from art showcases, to workout videos, to loop kits/drum kits. Music is in his blood!
